Lake Mono Energy Budget Model
In this lab, we are going to connect what we know about how greenhouse gases affect the energy balance and how the energy balance relates to Earth's surface temperature. Explore the Climate in the Lake Mono Region (east of the central Sierra Nevada in California) by choosing the Energy Budget Model link and completing the activity. You are going to run a model of Earth's energy budget for two scenarios:
- the current climate condition at Lake Mono (can the model predict the temperatures measured at Lake Mono?) and
- a future scenario that explores the effect on temperature of doubling the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere.
(Note: You need not run the model to explore ice age temperatures at Lake Mono, unless you are curious!)
When you are done, be sure to complete the student assessment using the class code: 37482. Include the results of the model runs you made in your eFolio document.
