Meter Corps

In the Meter Corps, you learn to:
-
Use a meter to help electricity consumers identify "standby power consumption" or "phantom energy loss" from electrical appliances
-
Count the number of incandescent light bulbs in a household or small business, and calculate the potential savings by switching to energy saving compact florescent bulbs
-
Produce an electronic audit report (with our help) showing potential money savings and carbon emissions reduction
Catch the phantoms! - Earn Good $ Doing Good for the Planet For your services, you get paid . . . and raise money for student scholarships to fight global warming. In the Meter Corps, you will create your own business, micro-enterprise. And we will provide you with a micro-loan for your meter and other essentials. You visit electricity consumers - homeowners and small businesses in your community. They pay you for your energy metering services. You create and present them with an energy audit showing the potential annual energy and cost savings associated with eliminating standby power loss and switching to energy saving compact florescent bulbs. And you will show they just how much carbon emissions they can eliminate. That is up to you. You create a business plan and set the fee structure that you want to charge. Initially you work to pay off your loan. Global Challenge electronically collects and distributes all funds and gives you an accounting of all activity. After your loan is paid off you begin earning one-third of the fee. One-third goes to build a scholarship fund, or to pay for households that cannot afford the fee, and one-third goes to build a scholarship fund. This page connects to:
