Collaboration
We are all partners in the global challenge to mitigate the potentially irreversiblee, devastating effects from the threat of global warming. As youth and adults we are in this together. Only through collaboration can we hope to mitigate the environmental problems caused by the emissions carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases (GHGs) into the Earth’s atmosphere.
We created the Green Earth Corps as a Global Challenge mechanism to address carbon reduction emissions in the energy emissions sector for which youth can have a major role – the residential and commercial sector. Our shared goal as GEC collaborators is to reduce carbon emissions from standby power and excessive consumption from appliances in our homes and businesses. We do this by providing metering services of the GEC Meter Corps to help consumers identify and reduce standby power loss, and by providing auditing services of the Audit Corps to help consumers identify and reduce carbon emissions from functioning inefficient appliances.
You may elect to join only the Meter Corps and qualify for the Audit Corps at a later date. Or you may initially elect to join the Audit Corps, which includes Meter Corps activities.
If you are an individual with good organizational development skills, or want to acquire good organizational skills, we will support you to develop and fund an ACTS program in partnership with your school- or community-based organization. You must first prove your basic skills at the Audit Corps level.
Whatever the challenge level you accept there are consistent themes in this GEC Global Challenge program
-
You will be a social entrepreneur responsible for your own GEC program development and activities.
-
You will have opportunities to learn business skills and apply these skills at an important industry – the emerging energy efficiency industry.
-
You will learn about sustainable energy, acquire new skills and apply your knowledge of science.
-
You will get paid for providing a valuable service, and help Save the World on your Way to College.
And remember, GEC management and staff are always there to support your
participation in whatever level(s) you choose. Do not hesitate to call upon us.
Climate change mitigation is a collaborative effort. For all to succeed each
must succeed. We are in this together!
