ACTS Team

Action, Communications, Technology  and  Science (ACTS) is an
after-school and classroom enrichment program with the goal to provide opportunities for students to conduct community-based, service-learning as they explore the relationship between energy, economics and environment. Over the course of one or two semester(s) depending on grade level, students will study the linkage between energy and climate change. They will learn to utilize energy monitoring devices and will be certified as consumer appliance energy auditors.

Students’ community service activities will include measuring standby power and excess energy consumption of functioning inefficient appliances. Utilizing the data collected and analyzed through their community service activities, students will examine household and community economics of a transition to energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies. Students certified as small appliance energy auditors will be eligible to join the Green Earth Corps and conduct energy audits part-time on a fee-for-service basis. ACTS is modeled after the SolarQuest® program developed in the Province of the Galapagos (Ecuador).
