GBP Technology & Integration
Team Challenge
Broaden the potential scope of your product by exploring existing and advanced (or potential new) technologies and integrate your work with existing products and services!
Resources
You are a bit on your own here, because we can't predict what you'll be working on by now. But always, always, always check with the GBP Rubric to make sure you stay on track with the things that count.
We would appreciate it it if you would add new resources to the Global Resources so that others may benefit from your brilliance in the future! It's easy to do. Use the search box on that page to find great things that others have found useful in the past. And add anything new that you think others might find helpful in the future!
Process
BASIC LEVEL This might be a good time to review what you did recently in the product description area and improve that work with:
- Detailed product drawings and description of your drawings focusing on the underlying science and math that makes your product effective in addressing issues related to global climate change.
- Detailed explanation of how this product works.
- Include mathematical equations related to the science and describe them in detail. For example, any project related to solar energy relies on the photoelectric effect, a theory proposed by Einstein which states:
- energy carried by any light particle, called a photon, is proportional to the frequency of the radiation. The formula for this is E = hν, where E is the energy of the radiation, h is a universal constant known as Planck’s constant, and ν is the frequency of the radiation.
GRAB YOUR POINTS!
1. Log into eFolio. Place your work into your team's "GBP & TIP Challenges" folder. Title your entry with [Your Name]-[Challenge title]-[Process Level] (e.g. David Gibson-Title-BASIC) so that we can credit you for your work!
2. Evaluate the Challenge.
GOING BEYOND You know the drill...yada, yada, yada:
- How does your product integrate with existing devices, products and services?
- Include graphs or tables of data with explanations.
- Discuss the technology that makes these features possible. What existing technologies make your product work?
- What does this product accomplish that has not been done before? Discuss the technology that makes this possible. Where did you find this technology?

GOING CRAZY For those who have Einstein on the team (or at least helping you):
- Describe how your product works at the atomic level. Include enough background information, and be clear enough that your description can be understood by an intelligent lay reader. Build this description to the human level and describe how your product works. Again using the example of solar energy you could explain how photons of light excite electrons and how these electrons can eventually be turned into electricity.
- Discuss any new scientific discoveries that make your innovations possible. Describe any current research in this field.
- Does this product make use of any new/novel materials, processes or other patented or proprietary intellectual property?
As before and always, it will put your team over the top if you remember to use these kinds of roles and give (no, make that "encourage" or "twist the arm of") each team member to be a leader and innovator!
- Task Leader, (Research Team Leader, Team Leader)
- Documentation (writing, editing, putting things together, linking to standards)
- Resources (finds and gets stuff)
- Evaluation and team reflection role (process monitor role)
