Program Overview
Global Challenge Award's mission is "to provide high school students worldwide, the tools and confidence to solve global problems together" We do this by providing students with "authentic project-based learning experience" working in small global teams to solve climate change issues. To us, authentic learning experiences are those in which students have to put in significant effort over an extended duration of time, where there is external assessment and evaluation of the work and where the work is focused on a real world issue of climate change.
The program is completely student-directed; we provide a self-learning game-like technology environment in order to keep students engaged and motivated through their collaborative projects over an extended duration. We offer several types of projects, called Student Challenges (also see Outlines of the Challenges), that excite student interests and meet their level of readiness to learn.
We work within and outside of schools
Global Challenge Award works with schools for a sustained implementation of the program. We can help you establish an after school club, assist with integration of the program in classroom activities as well as connect you to a network of schools across the globe to facilitate global student teams and create a positive impact in your community. Students who complete the program acquire 21st Century Skills as well as other life skills. With our global footprint and focused student-directed learning and action, the program is contributing to creating global capacity for climate change.
Global Challenge Award's curriculum has been evaluated for requirements of international and national level education standards. We ensure that the curriculum addresses areas that are difficult to include in a classroom oriented study environment. We focus on each student's success beyond school.
