Student Activities
The GBP competition is the most demanding and rewarding one. Your team completes a TIP plus creates feasibility arguments (consumer, technical, financial, and political analyses) that would be needed to attract venture capitalists or government agencies to consider funding your proposal for a global business. Your business idea has both a technical and ethical heart, with a scientifically innovative idea to address climate change or the future of energy.
Here's what you can expect to be doing if you select to work on the Global Business Plan competition:
- Build a team of four students from at least 2 countries and get to know your teammates, establish team working processes and be in regular communication with your team.
- Select a problem related to climate change and/or energy that you all feel passionate about and that you would like to tackle in your plan.
- Research all aspects of the problem and conduct a full analysis of your solution as it relates to industry, manufacturing, marketing, feasability, and key personnel.
- Consult with advisors and experts in the field to gain more expertise in your subject.
- Work through all the challenges that we have provided to help you produce all the needed sections of your report.
- Communicate regularly with your mentor to see clarity, ask questions, resolve team issues, and receive feedback on your work.
- Review and score your work and that of your teammates using the GBP rubric that will be provided to you.
- Send finished challenges to your mentor for review.
- Submit your final plan in your team space for external evaluation.
- Challenge yourself, ask lots of questions and have fun!
The basic idea is for your team to tackle each part of your plan as outlined in the GBP Rubric and then seek feedback on it from each other and your mentors, parents, and scientists - even the staff of the Global Challenge can give you helpful feedback! Use external feedback plus your own self-assessment of your work (using the GBP Rubric again and again!) to make steady improvements in your work products until submitting the final GBP. If you consistently score high in your own eyes and in the eyes of outside observers, then you are sure to be among the top performing teams in your chosen competition!
