Create A New Exploration
Ever been bored by a long-winded science teacher? Or had to suffer through an incomprehensible math lecture? Do you think that society is capitalizing on the opportunities provided by Web 2.0 in the education of its young people?
Here's your chance to help advance ideas concerning science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education in Web 2.0! Choose a STEM topic of interest to your team and work together to create an engaging exploration for high school students. The best will be included in the GCA program!
Before your team gets started creating your Exploration, consider the following questions for a moment:
Why should citizens of this world be scientifically literate?
How scientifically literate are we?
What does the Web 2.0 have to do with STEM Education?
Your team's Exploration should include all of the elements listed below. Use your Team Page.
A. Choose a Subject or Theme
Get started on the design of your Exploration by choosing a subject or theme that intrigues you or by finding a cool interactive activity on the web.
B. Decide What You Want Your Peers to Learn
Identify one or more concepts or skills you want other teens to know after they complete your Exploration.
C. Find a Hook
How can you draw others into wanting to know about this topic? Show the relevance of your topic to the big picture, appeal to the imagination or find some other way to interest your audience.
D. Look for Great Online Activities
Your students are online, so bring in Web 2.0 technology to help teach your concepts!
E. Assessment
How will you know what your students have learned? Decide what work products you want them to do to demonstrate their understanding of the material.
F. Putting It All Together
It's time to write! Be succinct, but clear. Integrate your writing with your web activities. Keep it engaging. This is what your students will see on the web.
G. Answer Key
Don't forget to include answers to your Exploration's problems.
