Computer Gaming Workshop
Workshop: Use of Social Computer Gaming in Education
Greetings from Global Challenge Award & Neeti Solutions,
We are pleased to announce, a one of its kind workshop for 8th, 9th & 10th standard students, that is focused on introduction of socially relevant computer game development to train students in various subjects e.g. disaster risk reduction, climate change, health etc. which are now an important part of the academic curricula.
For the last couple of years Neeti is developing the use of computer gaming methodology to train students with various partner schools' students in and around Pune. Since, the schools and students are already overburdened with the curricula and related activities; having the aid of interactive computer games which the students like, will definitely reduce the burden of learning and at the same time impart knowledge.
The workshop will be conducted by Dr. David Gibson who is a professor at Vermont University, USA, an expert in computer gaming and K-12 schooling system and the executive director of Global Challenge Award.
The current gaming scenario is that:
- The schools are well equipped with computer labs but without the age appropriate content.
- The students like to play computer games that are mostly violent and spend hours together to play these games.
- The parents are worried with the indulgence of their children in these antisocial, violent games.
Therefore to address all these gaps, Neeti Solutions along with Global Challenge Award have a come up with the idea of use of computer gaming as a methodology to teach the students the ever emerging new subjects which are socially relevant. We believe in children's ability as "Change Agents" who influence their peers and family members to bring about a positive change. Therefore we would like the children themselves to come up with their gaming ideas that will appeal to their peers and provide a fun medium of learning some of the burning global issues.
